Welcome to the 2024 Smyrna Panthers Wrestling Season!
Head Coach: Kyle Stagner
Assistant Coach: Dalen Miller
Remind Code: P1n2W1n
Thank you for being a part of the Smyrna Middle School Wrestling team. We are so excited to share our love of wrestling, competition, and fitness with you and your children!
Overview: Wrestling is both a team sport and an individual sport.
Team Expectations:
- Be present. Practice is NOT optional. Your regular attendance is crucial. I expect all athletes to be at practice and on time. The practices are designed to help you improve at the proper pace. Missed practices hurt you individually and affect the team.
- Be ready to work. You will improve at a pace that is correct for your personal development. Your child will be challenged with what is appropriate for you and your goals.
- Be positive. Having a good attitude is the best way to approach a task or challenge.
- Be encouraging! We are a team, and we take pride in everyone’s achievements. We consider ourselves FAMILY.
Coach Expectations:
- We will share our love of wrestling and fitness with you while creating a fun, safe, and positive environment.
- We will provide you with the best training while focusing on individual goals and improvement as well as team goals.
- We will instill the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.
- We will be available to discuss any issues that you may have.
Communication: The best way to communicate is directly to your coach. If you have not already done so, please make sure that all contact information is up to date. Any changes in schedules will be communicated through Remind or Final Forms.
Practices: We will have practice Monday-Thursday from 3:15-5:15pm. We will take attendance at every practice. If you are absent contact your coach directly. Messages sent through other team members are NOT acceptable. Excused absences are doctor’s note or absences from school.
Equipment: It is important that athletes have a good or (new) pair of wrestling shoes to prevent injury. Please see us if you have questions about shoes. Wrestling head gear is also required to compete, and if you have any questions on where to purchase these items, we will be happy to point you in the right direction.
Missed Practice Policy is as follows:
You will be allowed one UNEXCUSED absence.
Two UNEXCUSED absences: You will not be allowed to participate in the next meet.
Three UNEXCUSED absences: You will have a meeting with your coach to determine future eligibility.
Missed Match Policy:
If you know you will not be able to attend a meet, contact your coach immediately. Any unexcused meet absences will need to be addressed. Any unexcused absences of a meet are grounds for release from the team.
Note: Team dues will not be refunded due to unexcused absences.
Eligibility: All student athletes should have completed the Final Forms paperwork. Any student-athlete that is not 100% current may not practice with the team until all paperwork has been submitted and approved. Link is provided below.
Travel: All away and weekend meets, athletes will be required to have their own transportation.
Academics: We are students first, then athletes. All team members are responsible for keeping their grades in good standing. If a team member falls below a 70% in any core class, that member will not be allowed to compete the following week. The grades are checked Saturday at noon each week.
Uniforms: Each athlete will be given a singlet to wrestle in during competitions. A link will be given to purchase spirit wear through our online store. If you have any questions, see me ASAP.
Costs: The fees for wrestling are $250.00 which will be due by October 10th. The fee for this program covers tournament entrance fees, referee fees, banquet, a player pack, etc. Wrestlers will not be able to wrestle until the team fees are paid. School online payment is PREFERRED, but Cash and Check are acceptable. Please make checks out to “Smyrna Middle School Wrestling.” Please see me if you have any questions or concerns regarding costs.
NOTE that fundraising your team fees will help eliminate any cost to you as a parent. If your child cannot get the $250 minimum in donations, you as a parent will have to cover the difference.
