Parent Teacher Conferences!

Welcome families of Smyrna Middle! Join us this Tuesday, October 21st from 3:15 - 6:15 PM for Parent-Teacher Conferences along with your student.

Here at Smyrna Middle, we believe in students being the main character in their own learning!

Our conferences are STUDENT-LED so be sure to bring YOUR STUDENT along with you to this event! During student-led conferences, students will share and discuss their collected data, grades, and assignments. Teachers will be present to help facilitate conversations and support students as needed. This process helps to make students more independent and informed as they are being made to be an active participant in discussing their grades and behavior.

There is no need to schedule a specific time with your students' teachers as conferences will run from 3:15 - 6:15 PM. Students and families are welcome to come and go as needed during this time. If you have any further questions or concerns, or just unable to attend but would still like an update, please reach out to your students' teachers for assistance.

A message from James Evans with Rutherford County Schools concerning parent-teacher conferences:

"We are looking forward to having parents on campus to meet with teachers and to help support student achievement. We do want to let you know we will be using our weapons detection systems at all schools to screen all visitors during these conferences. We have been successfully using these systems at our schools and during athletic events since September to help increase safety and security for everyone.

These systems are designed to quickly screen individuals when they enter the schools, just like you see at concert venues, athletic stadiums, and theme parks.

Everyday items such as keys, cell phones, and coins won’t cause an alert, but some items, such as computers, three-ring binders, and umbrellas, will. Those types of items shouldn’t be needed during the conferences, and so we encourage everyone to simply leave them in their vehicles.

We appreciate your cooperation with these security protocols. Our intent is to make them as pain-free as possible while providing safe environments for everyone. Thanks again for all that you do as parents."
