Rutherford County Schools
Students from Smyrna Middle and Smyrna High schools shared the impact science, technology, engineering and math – collectively known as STEM – have had on their learning with the 2025 Leadership Rutherford cohort.
Leadership Rutherford, a program of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, gives residents a chance to learn more about various sectors of the community, including education, government and business. The group met Wednesday at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology campus in Smyrna.
Students toured the facility and presented various projects they have worked on this year to demonstrate what they are experiencing in STEM classes. They explained the importance of the engineering design process and fielded questions from the 40-member cohort. Moreover, students detailed how the skills they have learned can be utilized in a professional career.
Tyra Pilgrim, Career and Technical Education coordinator for Rutherford County Schools, sat on a panel and provided information about the productive relationship that RCS has with TCAT. Pilgrim also offered insight into the various industry certification programs the district offers.
