Weekly Updates 3/3

Happy Sunday Smyrna Middle Parents and Students,

Here is a bit of information for the week.

  • We are officially benchmark testing for the next two weeks. This test is given in all Rutherford County schools and is used as a predictive test for TCAP. Parents can assist with the testing process by making sure students get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and are present in school for the next two weeks.
  • Parents, we also need your help with getting your students to school on time. Absences and tardies to school are increasing. This is an issue as students are not learning when they are not present, and the federal government tracks each school’s attendance annually. A portion of a school’s performance is based on student attendance. We need parents to help SMS and the community of Smyrna by sending your students to school and on time. We want the best for Smyrna Middle School, and we know you do as well!
  • Question: When’s the last time you checked your kiddo’s phone or social media? If you are noticing a change in your student’s behavior, taking a look at who they are talking to and what they are discussing is vital in helping you to have conversations with your child. At school, we are seeing an increase in conflict beginning with or relating to social media.
  • Smyrna High School is scheduled to host 8th grade night on March 7th starting at 6:00. Parents/students are encouraged to attend. On that night, SHS will present information regarding 9th grade scheduling, graduation requirements, extracurriculars, sports, and academic opportunities at Smyrna High. Students who attend this night will receive their class selection/registration materials for 9th grade as well as specific instructions on how to fill out that paperwork prior to counselors coming to the middle school for registration. Head on over to Smyrna High School to begin scheduling for next year!!
  • To view the March Parent Newsletter, click here. A copy of the newsletter in Spanish will be added soon. Every year we like to survey parents to find ways to better serve our families as well as prepare for the next school year. If you have a few minutes, please complete either the paper copy that will be sent home on Wednesday, March 6th or click on the survey link below. Please have surveys either completed online or returned by Monday, March 11, 2024. Your input is important to us. If you have any questions, please email Monte Parks at [email protected]. Thank you for your input and time.
