To help you know what to get and why, here's a quick breakdown of the apps and platforms we'll be using at Smyrna Middle this year.

You'll only need to download two apps: ParentVUE and RCS.

Synergy is where you'll track your student's progress: grades, attendance, and class schedule all live here, along with student registration and updates to your contact and residency information. After setting up your account via the email link, you can access it all from the app. To access it, download the ParentVUE app.

Apptegy keeps you connected to what's happening at school and in the classroom: news, alerts, notifications, teacher webpages, and messages from your student's teachers. For this one, download the RCS App.

Schoology is your student's classroom hub, where teachers post lessons, handouts, class materials, and assignments. No app needed here. Students can log in on their devices at schoology.rcschools.net.

Synergy is here! Follow these steps to activate your account.

Join us for our annual Title One meeting and Open House on Thursday, August 13th starting at 5 pm.

We will begin in the SMS auditorium from 5 to 5:30 pm. Then, parents and students will be able to walk the school and meet with teachers and more.

SMS Families: Check out this update for Friday, August 7th for our first day back to school!

Buses will run on this day! Check for your busing information through the RCS webpage.
Students must pass through the weapons detection system every day including this Friday. Once students have entered the school building, they will report directly to their holding areas. No lunches provided this day. Students will walkthrough their schedule. Dismissal is at 10:00 AM. Please expect a slight delay in the car rider lines until everyone gets used to routine.

Join the Smyrna Middle School Panther Band!!

What is Band? The SMS 6th Grade Band is comprised of students learning a Band instrument for the first time. The instruments we play in 6th Grade are Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion. We meet during the school day as a regular class.

Where do we play? In 6th Grade, we perform two concerts at Smyrna Middle and a Small Ensemble event outside of school. In 7th and 8th Grade, you have the opportunity to be a part of the Pep Band and the Jazz Band!

Who can join? Band is for any student who has a desire to make friends, learn to play an instrument, and have fun! Your band directors will teach you everything you need to know to play in the Band. You do not need to know anything about music to join!

Does it cost money? There is a yearly $50 Band Fee that covers special instructors, additional class materials, field trips, etc. Obtaining your instrument can happen by renting to own, purchasing new or used, using an instrument from a friend or family member, or using borrowing a school instrument. However, we DO NOT want money to be a reason someone does not participate in Band. Please speak to us if this sounds prohibitive for your family and we will find a way for your student to participate!

Do I need an instrument to join Band? Not yet! The directors will help you select the instrument that’s best for you. Actually, please do NOT get an instrument before you have been fitted by us. Once we have found the perfect one for you, you can rent an instrument from our music store partner, Amro Music!

Can I do Band if I play sports? YES!! Band will not interfere with your schedule for sports or clubs because we meet as a class during the school day. When we have events outside school the directors work with the coaches! This year we had Band students in basketball, cheer, archery, wrestling, Beta, soccer, bowling, baseball, softball, and too many other things to name!

Why should I join? Band provides an excellent way for students to connect with a group and make friends! Learning to play an instrument develops confidence, resilience, and discipline. Most importantly, it’s fun!! We take field trips, play concerts, are a part of special events, and make tons of memories together.
