Ms. Upton- Reading Intervention

Welcome to Ms. Upton's RTI2 Reading Intervention Classroom. For more information on RTI2, please click here: RTI2 with Mr. Duke.

I am a reading interventionist at Smyrna Middle School. After graduating from MTSU, I was excited to become part of the SMS family. This is my 14th year at Smyrna Middle School. For the first several years I taught English Language Arts, but my passion was helping struggling students. I was excited to transition to reading intervention 6 years ago. I love spending my day with students who are working hard to advance their reading.

My goal in Reading Intervention is to help students who need extra reading instruction meet their goal of reading well on grade level. My students work on reading skills, not standards. Students work on their areas of weakness, so not every student is working on the same skills. Book Tests

Now that internet has returned, students can resume taking book tests. Students, please remember that you can test on books you read outside of school as well as those you read in my class. Every 10 points earns you a new book!

New Lexiles

Students, please remember that you have new Lexile scores based on your latest Reading Inventory test. Make sure those are written in your agenda, please.
